Nagano, now connected by a new Shinkansen line, is only a 90 minute trip from Tokyo Station. Japanese Macaque aka SNOW MONKEY bathing at the Jigokudani Hot Spring waters of Nagano is one of Japan's most iconic sights. But there is more to this story than just monkeys in a hot tub. This park has a special mission: to protect the resident monkeys and care for them through the hard winter. Staff have been doing that since the park opened in 1964, but it was in 1970 when LIFE Magazine put the Japanese Snow Monkey on the front cover that curiosity for the Japanese Macaque really grew. Despite being in a remote area of Japan, it gets many visitors from around the world. The Japanese Macaque’s life here is dedicated to a 4 season cycle. SPRING: babies are born, monkeys start shedding their winter coats SUMMER: a lot of activity, playing in the mountain forests FALL: monkeys start mating, bathing food and growing out their coats for winter. Female monkey pregnancy lasts for 6 months. If babies were born in the winter, they wouldn't survive so the cycle of life to give birth only in spring is essential for the whole troupes survival here in the mountainous north. This is the only place you’ll find Japanese monkeys bathing, soaking. The Japanese Macaque is the northern most primate besides humans and they have significance spiritually to Japan for thousands of years. Book here: 🤍 Shizuka and special guest Jesse explore the charming city of Matsumoto in Nagano prefecture. Famous for its original castle, Matsumoto is also well known for its production of miso, the fermented soybean paste. After enjoying some local mochi treats, they head to the Ishii Miso Factory. I'm going to eat two popular "youshoku" restaurants in Matsumoto, Japan. This is the episode 2 of 7-Day Food Tour in Japan. Episode 1 is here 🤍 Episode 3 is coming soon Yamagata Food Tour (Richmond Hotel's breakfast here was awesome) 🤍 More information on train tickets In this series, I bought train tickets separately. 1. Shinjuku - Matsumoto (6,620 JPY / 50.90 USD) 2. Matsumoto - Nagano - Toyama (9,190 JPY / 70.70 USD) 3. Toyama - Kanazawa (2,860 JPY / 22 USD) 4. Kyoto - Nara (720 JPY / 5.50 USD) 5. Nara - Kansai Airport (1,500 JPY / 11.50 USD) *I didn't buy the ticket from Kanazawa to Kyoto (7,020 JPY / 54 USD) because I had to go back to Tokyo. This is NOT the best way to buy the tickets on this route. It's actually possible to buy the tickets like this and save money 1. Buy the basic fare ticket from Shinjuku to Nara (via Matsumoto, Toyama, Kanazawa, Kyoto) 2. Buy limited express ticket or super express ticket each day and use it with the basic fare ticket However, it's too complicated to explain all the fare rule. Thanks for watching

上高地を大正池から明神池まで散策いたしました。大自然を満喫できる素敵なところでした。 【Kamikōchi】 Kamikōchi (上高地, Upper Highlands) is a remote mountainous highland valley within the Hida Mountains range, in the western region of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It has been preserved in its natural state within Chūbu-Sangaku National Park. It is designated as one of Japan's National Cultural Assets, on the list of Special Natural Monuments and Special Places of Scenic Beauty. It is sometimes referred to as the "Japanese Yosemite Valley," although it is considerably smaller than its Californian counterpart. 【Japan Alps】 The Japanese Alps (日本アルプス, Nihon Arupusu) is a series of mountain ranges in Japan which bisect the main island of Honshu. The name was coined by English archaeologist William Gowland, and later popularized by Reverend Walter Weston (1861–1940), an English missionary for whom a memorial plaque is located at Kamikōchi, a tourist destination known for its alpine climate. When Gowland coined the phrase, he was only referring to the Hida Mountains, but it now also applies to the Kiso Mountains and Akaishi Mountains. map 🤍

With Japan being known for its powdery slopes, it’s undeniable a ski trip to Japan was a part of my Japan bucket list waiting to be ticked off for the longest time. February is one of the coldest months which makes it perfect for a 5-day ski trip to Hakuba in #Nagano, #Japan this year in 2023. Located a 3.5 hour train ride from Tokyo, or a 6 hour bus ride from Narita, Hakuba is home to stunning panoramic landscapes of the surrounding alps; a great option for those looking for where to ski near Tokyo. Its variety of terrains and slopes make it a place that's suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. However, that being said, I should’ve researched which slopes to start with first so that I did not have to struggle as much 😂 So I've listed some slopes for you here, so you won't have to roll down the slopes like I did 😂: ⛷ Night skiing in Hakuba: - Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort ⛷ Best slopes for beginners in Hakuba: - Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort - Tsugaike Mountain Resort - Iimori Ski Resort - Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort ⛷ Best slopes for intermediate skiers in Hakuba: - Hakuba Happo-One Snow Resort (this snow resort stretches over a very large area so you might need more than 1 day to cover it) - ABLE Hakuba Goryu Snow Resort - Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort But the best part of it all is that you don’t really have to ski to be able to experience all of this! There are gondola lifts that take you up to the mountains, and beautiful observatory decks I’m sure would look picturesque in other seasons as well. I went with a large group so we rented out a ski chalet Airbnb for this trip located in Iwatake, mainly relied on shuttle buses, walking and very rarely the taxi services at Hakuba. I’ve posted additional details of this trip below in case they may be of help in planning a ski/snowboarding trip in Japan! Still can't believe I got to spend a night at the Spirited Away Sekinenkan onsen in Gunma! From the red bridge to the wooden building, the place looked straight out of a ghibli movie! Dating back to the Genroku era (1691) Sekinenkan is said to be the oldest ryokan in Japan. Hidden deep in the mountains of Nakanojo machi, the ryokan is in quite a remote area but as you approach the inn you can see traditional structures and shops reminiscent of old-time Japan. When you arrive at Sekizenka Ryokan, you will be greeted by the famous red Keiun bridge and the main building, which served as one of the models for the bath house in the Hayao Miyazaki film, Spirited Away. The place is even more magical by night as the lights come on to welcome all the guests! 🐉 Instagram: solli.fe © Sol Life 2022 All rights reserved Downloading the video, sharing and secondary editing are prohibited. After spending 3 days in Nagano, I have to say it exceeded all my expectations. What do you do when you have 24 hours in Nagano? This is a beautiful city with wonderful sights and food. Let us guide you through what we did here. We landed at 5pm and went for a delectable Shinshu beef BBQ dinner at Shinshu Meat Center. We were pleasantly surprised by how great Shinshu apple beef tasted. Highly recommended. We ended the night with warm sake and beer from Nagano Prefecture at Yamanoma Brewery. The next morning was spent getting to the Snow Monkey Park where we witnessed very adorable snow monkeys frolicking in the onsen. The sight of the monkeys in the snowy background was unforgettable. We had a great lunch of sauce katsudon and Shinshu soba at Meijitei in Nagano Midori. We also tried the horse sashimi which is this region's specialty. We had some time to kill before our Shinkansen to Tokyo and we shopped and snacked at Nagano Midori. Bought some Shinshu apple snacks, Oyaki and shimichi togarashi (7 Spices). There are really many things to eat and buy in Nagano. We just did not have the time. So we will return to this place next year to follow up on what we have not tried. See you soon, Nagano.
